In the previous neighbourhood where we lived there was no sense of co-operation between neighbours. Crime was a huge problem. People passed eachother, as we do in a large city like Pretoria, without a greeting or even a glance. When we moved into Silverton we decided to join the Silverton CPA and did so at our earliest chance. One of my good friends is a member of the East Ridge CPA and only had good words to say about the Silverton CPA. I firmly believe that crime is everyone's problem. Being involved is the responsibility of every citizen. We have been victims of crimes of all kinds, except murder of course - thank goodness. It really infuriates a person when your own property or your own personal space is invaded or your personal freedoms are violated. The Silverton CPA gives us a vehicle to become involved in crime prevention by simply observing and reporting any kind of event we see or hear during the course of our day to day lives. It also gives an added sense of security when you know that there are dozens of other households who refuse to be intimidated by criminals. It gives me immense satisfaction to know that the CPA members are united in their determination to make a difference to their community in every possible way. The other members inspire me to increase my own efforts to help and assist those around me wherever I can. From stopping cable theft to assisting people in medical emergencies, recovering stolen goods and apprehending criminals - The CPA has achieved monumental successes in the Silverton area. Sometimes they even catch criminals who enter Silverton from neighbouring areas! I strongly urge every citizen to join their local CPA or similar neighbourhood watch organisation.
